We got the room during Ramencon. Very convenient for our girl so she could run back to the room to change cosplays. The room was on the 4th floor so slightly far but a very nice room. The beds were comfortable although the one did not have a working remote for the sleep number. Loved the pillows, wanted to take them home :) The lobby was lovely and the staff throughout were very friendly and helpful. Loved the Starbucks and Atrium Bar. Barb, our bartender was extremely thoughtful and service was awesome. We had dinner at T.J. Maloney's and it was delicious and quite filling. I have two complaints, 1. Our coffee maker did not work where it was set at on the desk. I had to carry it to the other side of the room and plug it into a direct socket. 2. Our second night there we took our long hike back to the fourth floor elevator and it was out of order. Other than that we enjoyed our stay and will definitely return and certainly recommend it to friends and family.
My husband and I went for a company weekend away. This is the second time we stayed here at the Radisson Hotel, very convienant and clean. We had everything we needed and since there are refridgerators in the the rooms we planned ahead this time and brought drinks with us. $2.00 for a soda is a little much. The only complaint I had was they really need to update some of the bathrooms with new tubs and fixtures, for as much as the rooms are they should have the money to do a few rooms at a time. Overall a really nice place to stay.
Our family has stayed here for the past 2 years when taking our daughter to college. We did book thru hotwire, so we got a deal. The first time, we stayed in a room that was on the interior, at the indoor pool and lounge, it was on the weekend and the crowd kept us up til late. The second stay, we requested an outside room, was much better. The rooms were clean, staff was nice and took care of anything we needed. The pool could have used a cleaning. Overall, we would stay again at the right price. The only downside was that there was no continental breakfast and they have the sleep number beds and we did not like those.
The hotel lobby and pool are very nice. When we got to the room by the pool the carpet was filthy. It had various colored stains all over. I didn't want me or my children to take their shoes off. The bathroom felt like you were in a basement. Very dark. There was hair on the shower wall and floor. The shower head was all rusted as was the tissue holder. I didn't see any bugs but feared there might be some. This hotel was very overpriced for the quality of the room. Maybe they have nicer rooms but I didn't get one and couldn't wait to check out.
The family stayed recently for a night. My husband had purchased the celebrity circle package for him and our son. I came along with our youngest son to enjoy the hotel for the evening. The hotel has potential. Check-in was quick and smooth. The indoor pool area is beautiful. The rooms have all been updated with modern furniture. The walkway to the Star Plaza theatre is great. The buffet breakfast and dinner were very enjoyable, and the servers for both meals were very nice and helpful. The cons: DIRTY, DIRTY, DIRTY. I did not notice the hair on the bathroom floor, until after we came back from the pool and the kids had jumped in the shower. Disgusting. We spent the next 15 minutes wiping everything down with alochol wipes. Needless to say - they were nasty. My son and I went back down to the pool in the evening. After 4 hours, the same garbage was laying around, towels were laying all over. Clearly no one had stopped by. In the morning, we passed housekeeping in the hall. They were not busily cleaning, instead talking and staring at the cart. It's no wonder the room looked the way it did. I responded to the hotel survey, weeks later, I never even received a response. Clearly management does not care any longer. Hopefully someday they'll make a change, and put some accountability on the housekeeping staff.
Had a weekend event that was at the Radisson hotel. The room was okay .. 1st floor, business class room. The refrigerator was VERY small, no microwave in the room and the microwave they have to use was down in the little store/shop area and it was FILTHY! The room keys they gave us continued to deactivate so we were constantly having to go to front desk for new keys. The last morning we were there I heard a knock on the door and I went to go get the door and some guy was already coming into the room saying "room check" .... Well when he seen me he said sorry and walked out.... What I don't understand is why they were doing a room check at 10 am when check out was not until 12 pm..... The hotel was cold .... I mean freezing cold in the hallways. I think they charge to much for this hotel. I've stayed in nicer hotels in that area for less.
They have a nice lobby, and my check-in was a cinch, but the rooms feel worn and are definitely due for a renovation (especially when the costs here are comparable with newer hotels in the area). I felt OK safety-wise since I was traveling with another person, but my first-floor room had sliding glass doors that opened onto the parking lot. If I had been alone I am pretty sure I would have asked to switch to a different floor. They do have security at night, though, which is nice. There is also a comfortable bar and Starbucks on-site.
My partner and I had recently purchased the Concert package for the Alice Cooper show which included seats at the show, dinner buffet and breakfast. I had attended shows before and wanted my partner to have the same experience I did. Check in was a hassle and the young lady working the front desk was obviously inexperienced. Room was fine but the sleep number bed didn't work as was advertised. The dinner buffet didn't offer much selection and was scheduled at 5 when we were only allowed to check in at 4 leaving us little time to get ready. We arrive to the Star Plaza Theatre and finally find the Celebrity Circle Lounge, which was a hot room with very little selection in drinks. Also, it was cash only as they had no means to run a card there. Now on to the show. We find our excellent seats in the 5th row. We would not get to enjoy them long. As the show begins, people kept coming down front from other seats blocking the aisles in order to get near the stage. Security was doing nothing to prevent this. A few songs in, a guitar pic is thrown next to my partner. He reaches down to pick it up and a guy in the row behind us grabs him by the shirt, thus ripping it and scratches my boyfriend in the struggle to get the pic from him. My boyfriend points out his ripped shirt and scratched chest to a couple members of security and is basically told, "Well, that's just what happens." Upset by this reaction, he leaves the show and goes back to his room while I search for a higher level of security. The man I find is very rude to me after I explain what happened even when I tell him I can identify the person who attacked him as I was right there. He tells me unless he can talk to my boyfriend directly that it was pointless talking to me. I go back to the room to get my boyfriend to come back and talk to them. We return and are shuffled to another security guard. After seeing the shirt and the scratches, he basically acts like he can't be bothered. Finally he asks us to point out the person responsible. We identify him and he tells us to grab some seats in the back for the rest of the show which by this point Alice was on the last song. He doesn't approach the person identified at all and as the show lets out, he tells us, "Well, we've got your info, we'll call you if anything happens." So due to all this, we miss most of the show, had to give up our seats while the attacker gets to enjoy it all. The attitude we got from security that due to us being gay, they were unwilling to help us. After getting no satisfaction from the theater security, I decided to address my concerns to the front desk. I'm given a security officer, Vido, who I again explain the situation to and he's like, "Well, they should have taken care of that at the theater." I tell them that was why I was addressing him. He pretty much tells me like everyone else had that there was really nothing he could do about it. This was not my first trip to the Radisson at Star Plaza but it will definitely be my last. The homophobic attitudes of the security made me uneasy and hurt that attitudes like that still exist. After spending almost $500 for this package, I would expect better service from staff. There was not one "I'm sorry" or any offer to fix this situation, just a lot of "Well, there's not much we can do." After spending the money and driving over 6 hours for this show to have it ruined by security officers on an ego-trip is not my idea of a nice get-a-way.
Stayed here for business one night and was very pleasantly surprised. The waterfall over the pool and cool colored lights in the pool made mw sorry I didn't bring the kids. Very dark painted ceiling in the main hotel area, but really emphasized the pool. Desk staff were very friendly at check in. Nice Starbucks in the lobby area and Irish themed pub on site. The common hallway leading to my room was very tired looking, so i was surprised to find the room itself was very nicely appointed with king size bed, lots of pillows, full sized sofa with a nice matching ottoman, dual height desk, refrigerator and several mirrors in the room. Bathroom was small, but functional, although it took a LONG time for the water to get hot. The bed was a sleep number, but the control did not work so the bed was super hard. My room had NO view, but since there was a tornado warning I felt pretty secure in the location I was in at the back of the hotel. Because of the severe storm the night I was there, I didn't feel like going out. I walked though the conference area to get to the lobby, and was impressed with the ballrooms -very nice. I ordered a burger which was fantastic, and enjoyed a Cosmopolitan at the bar -also wonderful. I will be staying here again when I am in Merrilville.
The location of the hotel is prime as it is near a lot of establishments, restaurants, stores, groceries, etc. name it and they're just 'round the corner. The purpose of staying in this hotel was well served as we only needed a night's rest . The rooms are OK, a little bit ran down already but still find their bed to be comfortable. We actually booked 3 rooms, it was a bit too cold in one of the rooms but the air-conditioning cannot be adjusted and since we did not have time to call maintenance to adjust it, the occupants in the room just have to deal with it, we only had a few hours stay anyway. What was actually not so nice for us was the super strong smell of the (pool) chlorine at the hallway / pathway, when we were being ushered to our rooms... thankfully, the smell is not that strong inside the rooms... Happy that there was a Starbucks and an Irish Pub (closes as early as 11pm, we we're expecting it to close at 1 or 2... ), aside from the restaurant where they serve breakfast. The lady at breakfast was super, her service was 5star. :)
